KidzCanHelp.ca is proud to announce former Toronto Maple Leaf Goaltender Peter Ing as our Honorary Chair for the Kick Off of our Winter 2010 Hockey Equipment Drive
“Ethan, Nick and KidzCanHelp.ca have taken the initiative to make a difference in other kids’ lives by providing them with a chance to play. This is a wonderful, grass-roots program, which I am happy to support, in the hope of helping others experience the opportunity I was blessed to have,” says Peter Ing.
At a recent event held by CYO Hockey for the “Just Try it” program which KidzCanHelp.ca supports, they were able to meet Peter after watching him on the ice helping the kids and seeing the passion he still has for the game.
“Seeing Peter’s willingness to help kids who in some cases had never skated before experience the thrill of playing hockey, I saw an opportunity for him to work with us and to help even more kids,” says Chase, Director of Community Relations for KidzCanHelp.ca.
KidzCanHelp is striving to reach some of the following goals for their “Winter 2010 Equipment Drive” which will kick off in November:
- 100 pairs of skates for kids across Niagara
- Enough equipment to suit up 50 children
- Raise funds to subsidize 12 kids for hockey programs
KidzCanHelp.ca recognizes the benefit the game of hockey provides kids from all walks of life in teaching life skills, personal discipline and the power of working together as a team. These benefits are also recognized by Peter Ing.
“The experience of playing hockey helped shape me as an individual and provided opportunity in my life, and I see that my own children’s lives are enriched because of hockey. It saddens me that many children miss out on participating in this great game due to the cost of equipment and ice time,” says Ing.
In the next few weeks KidzCanHelp.ca will also be announcing their official “Kick Off” event for their “Winter 2010 Hockey Equipment Drive” which will be hosted at the Hockey Factory on Welland Ave in St. Catharines. Launched in 2009 KidzCanHelp.ca has quickly evolved from the original idea to collect used equipment for children in Bosnia to now helping local kids across the Niagara Region. The idea has become a great cause supported by our family, friends and community.
Peter was drafted 48th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his 1990/91 rookie season, Ing played 56 games for the Maple Leafs and was the Molson Cup winner. Peter also played for the Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Red Wings.
Post hockey, Peter transitioned into the hospitality and entertainment business, working with MGM/Mirage Resorts in Las Vegas and Niagara Casinos. After 12 years as a casino executive, Peter joined Fan-tastic Sports™ with partner Bryce Salvador (New Jersey Devils). Peter now runs his own company named INGcorporated™ and is available for consulting, marketing, event facilitation, speaking engagements, and appearances.
